STAGE 2 Recruiting Entrepreneurs
In recruiting the entrepreneurs – the person and not the idea – Use the following steps in conjunction with the entrepreneurs’ profile (module 2)
1. Always remember ideas are common. People who implement ideas are worth
their value in gold!
The world is full of incredible ideas that never go anywhere because great ideas are useless without someone full of passion, skill, and talent to implement them.
Please remember this when recruiting entrepreneurs. Judge them on themselves and their potential, not on their idea. Of course, their idea might be in some way a reflection of them but do not take the idea as the only criteria to select your entrepreneur.
2. Implementing an idea can be intimidating, but taking that first step forward is the most important thing you can do to get your idea off the ground.
An effective entrepreneur is one who sees the big picture and has the judgment to know when to focus on the specifics of implementation.
Analysing an idea is an important pre-step, but one of the biggest stumbling blocks people face is the temptation to over-analyze in an attempt to solve every potential problem they might face. Therefore the best entrepreneurs accept that in the early stages of an idea there is no possible way to predict exactly what the future will hold because it is impossible to have every future fact you need to know. In the process of moving toward implementing your idea, variables around you will begin to change, and as they do, new facts will always be coming to light, which will help you to adapt your ideas in the right direction. Go into it knowing that your idea is going to evolve and change drastically before it reaches its true fulfillment. All great ideas do, and that is what you want. Therefore also look in your potential entrepreneurs for flexibility, confidence not to be stubborn, and a willingness to listen and learn….and if needs be a willingness and ability to change the idea.
4. A willingness to share, receive feedback, to learn from others is an the essential trait of an entrepreneur.
5. Passion and enthusiasm, combined with the clarity of thought and innovative approaches to work. Entrepreneurs are passionate about ideas but also stay cool and calm. The passion carries an entrepreneur through difficult times that inevitably come along the path of implementation, whilst the clarity of thought offers the platform for effective judgment.
