Conflict management- Conflict resolution stages

Conflict management is defined as a systematic process aiming at the discovery of satisfying solutions for the members involved in the conflict. At the same time, its ultimate purpose is to decrease non-functioning conflicts that reduce the group’s efficiency, and in turn, to use effective or constructive conflicts to create positive results.

The stages of conflict resolution include:

  • Negotiation: Different sides discuss and try to find a solution
  • Mediation: a commonly accepted person, neutral and objective, helps the two sides find a solution.
  • Arbitration: Intervention of a person to settle the confrontation with a binding compromise.
  • Judgment: Appeal to the court that is a completely binding decision, rarely beneficial for both sides.
